Used in religious rituals, celebrations, and to communicate, these instruments were important tools of the societies. For example, gourd rattles may be used in rain dance ceremonies; dancers may wear rattles around their waist, necks, or ankles. Often, different pitches coincides with the rhythm of the dance. |
