- Mortar and Pestle
- The grinding of grains using large mortars and pestles is endemic
to West Africa and, for that matter, much of the world. The carefully
carved and elegantly worn mortar that is presented here could be
from a number of cultures.
- Most everyday objects used in Africa for the preparation of food,
particularly mortar and pestles, are quite simple. Although
simplicity applies to this piece as well, it was obviously used for
large quantities of items and carved with care.
